The contractor, Philadelphia Polished Concrete (PPC), started by removing a fiberglass coating from an existing upper second story deck. Hotel staff had a hard time keeping the deck coating clean and from falling, so PPC came up with the idea to grind flat the existing concrete and to incorporate contraction joints into a design then stain the entire surface using Scofield Revive exterior stain. The contractor started using 70- and 120-grit metal-bond tooling by Superabrasive and then switched to 50-grit hybrid pads. Then, they saw-cut the designs with a worm drive saw and applied the stain and sealed it with Scofield Cementone sealer. The final step was to add an epoxy grout to the joints to produce a distinct look like individual tiles all from the base concrete. The work resulted in a new patio experience with a non-slip surface which is easy to clean.
