For the development of the Rowan University Holly Pointe Commons in Glassboro, N.J., Healy Long & Jevin embraced the most aggressive deadline for a cast-in-place structure in the company’s history. The contractor placed 15,000 cubic yards of concrete and 1,200 tons of steel within a short, seven-month period. Opting against traditional structural concrete construction techniques, Healy Long & Jevin used PERI Quattro columns and Titan horizontal shoring and filigree, successfully integrating factory precast and field- construction technologies.
Standing 75 feet high, the hall is set on 8 acres at the former Mansion Park Apartments. The 300,000-square-foot dormitory complex includes a four-story building and a seven-story building connected by a bridge.
The expansive building façade, constructed of metal facing with large windows throughout, includes floor to ceiling glass at community lounge areas, immersing students as they study. The project also features a 20,000-square-foot dining facility with seating for more than 500 students, seminar rooms, and convenient access to laundry services.
Designed with sustainability incorporated into every detail, Holly Pointe Commons is minimally targeting LEED Silver certification. The $145 million residence hall was completed in time for the 2016-17 academic school year and is now home to 1,415 underclassmen.
This project won GBCA's 2016 Construction Excellence Award for Best Concrete Contractor Project.
