This fire station showcases an array of concrete finishes, including sealed concrete, ground and densified concrete, and polished concrete.

The variety of finishes were chosen for very specific reasons, however the main reason being the wear and tear factor in the apparatus bay of the station where the ground and densified concrete floor finish is in place. The densified concrete still allows for great durability, which was extremely important considering the large fire trucks that would be sitting atop the finish.

The polished concrete was deemed as more fitting for the interior portion of the fire station. This project included a specially designed lightweight concrete mix featuring granite, which was then dyed black with a polished finish, thus displaying the mix design’s beautiful matrix of natural rock to its utmost potential.
