The Global Asphalt Pavement Alliance (GAPA) has issued a position statement on warm-mix asphalt, defined as “a class of technologies employed to reduce the production and paving temperature of asphalt mixtures by 10° to 40° C.” GAPA says that it “will inevitably become the standard practice for asphalt mixture production.” The process uses mineral or organic additives to introduce foaming into the production of asphalt mixtures. Warm-mix asphalt offers improved compaction, reduced energy consumption, and an extended paving season.
