An estimated 540,000 cubic yards of roller-compacted concrete will eventually be used on the splash pad and buttress for the Oroville Dam spillway in California. The splash pad, which runs 730 feet down from the emergency spillway, has already used 25,000 cubic yards of concrete.
The 1,450 feet long wall, drilled 35-65 feet into bedrock, is one preventative measure against the type of erosion that occurred there last year, should the emergency spillway ever be used again.
