Every year hundreds of loggerhead sea turtles return to Hollywood Beach to lay their eggs. Emphasizing the migration of this endangered species earned Hollywood, Fla., first place from among 140 candidates. It's also the first legged tank (it has 10) to receive the honor in the competition's five-year history.
The city's Community Redevelopment Agency paid for the design, which anyone driving Interstate 95 between Fort Lauderdale and Miami can now see at night because the Department of Public Services decided to add lighting around the balcony and base.
The design uses 19 colors in Tnemec Co. Inc. Series 700 HydroFlon, an advanced fluoropolymer.
RUNNER-UP: VILLAGE OF OAK LAWN, ILL.
Fifteen colors of Tnemec's Series V700 Low-VOC HydroFlon were specified so this mural complies with Illinois volatile organic compound (VOC) regulations. The project was an overcoat of a 12-year-old coating system.
