The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) has released a new publication, LRFD Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaires, and Traffic Signals, first edition. The specifications were developed by the AASHTO Highways Subcommittee on Bridges & Structures.
These new design specifications, which employ the Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) methodology, are applicable to the structural design of supports for highway signs, luminaires, and traffic signals, and are based on recent work performed under NCHRP 10-80 and other research efforts.
The specifications supersede those found in the sixth edition of Standard Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaires, and Traffic Signals. In addition to incorporating LRFD methodology, the specifications include two new sections: Fabrication and Construction, and Asset Management.
