Utah's Cecret Lake Trail will remain closed until Oct. 30 while the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities repairs the earthen dam. Built in the 1920s, the dam began showing major deterioration. Crews will now be required to meet modern state construction codes, use concrete and grout (instead of earth) and take strict precautions to keep uncured concrete from the banks of the river.

Crews will have to partially excavate around the outlet works, which will require the use of drills, portable generators, saws, and pumps that may cause some noise disruption. After repairs, workers will restore and revegetate the area surrounding the dam.
