The American Council of Engineering Companies of Arizona named Carollo Engineers, Fountain Valley, Calif., a 2005 Grand Award Winner for its design of the city of Yuma's Desert Dunes Water Reclamation Facility.

In designing the automated, state-of-the-art facility, the firm made sure that the plant would blend into the surrounding desert landscape. The resulting facility serves as a cornerstone water reclamation plant for the continued growth and development of Yuma.

“The success of the Desert Dunes project can be credited to a remarkable partnership between the city of Yuma, Carollo, and PCL Civil Constructors Inc.,” said John Cutright, Desert Dunes project manager and partner at Carollo. “This partnership was based on common goals and a commitment to build a facility that would serve the needs of the community in the most cost-effective and environmentally conscious way possible.”

The Desert Dunes plant went online earlier this summer and is currently operating at a treatment capacity of 3 mgd. Located on an 80-acre campus on the East Mesa, the facility has sufficient room to expand to 12 mgd.
