In May, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) began construction of a concrete roadside wall to encase a 60-foot high slope in hopes of stopping future rock slide and erosion. The $5 million project on U.S. Highway 50, near Cave Rock on Lake Tahoe East Shore, is now nearing completion.

Construction involved drilling anchor bars into the slope to secure a heavy-duty mesh. The mesh was covered with over 1,000 yards of shotcrete and finalized with a layer of hand sculpted concrete to match the surround aesthetics. This is part of over $15 million NDOT has invested to secure roadside slopes near the lake over the years.
