The grey custom-designed mix, known as Architectural Grey was designed by a collaboration between Limecrete and DS Grinding to create a uniform grey-toned finish throughout the concrete and eliminate the yellowing that is quite commonly found in concrete in Western Australian. Placement of the concrete was done by Steven Bates Concrete focusing on maximizing the pour area to reduce the need for joining pours, and making sure all window and door rebate areas were set to perfection to allow the transitions to sit flush with the finished polished seamless concrete flooring.
The polishing process consisted of first creating the canvas for the minimal exposure requested by the client prior to block-wall construction. This enabled the client to customize the level of exposure live prior to the polishing processes. Then protective custom color-matched grout was placed to protect the floor during heavy construction. When the final polishing stages were taking place, extreme protection and caution was required for the exposed blockwork throughout due to its porosity and fragility around heavier grinding machinery. During the final polishing stages, the client was then able to select the sheen level of polishing while DS Grinding was moving up in the grit stages to get the exact sheen levels desired prior to the penetrating sealer.
