Client wanted the whitest floor possible but with maximum white and light gray aggregate exposure and full gloss. A full hardened and mechanically polished concrete floor was the requirement.

DS Grinding worked with Hanson Concrete to design a customized white based concrete mix with only white and gray blend 14-20 mm quartz throughout.

The project was completed with polished concrete on two floors throughout and included rolling out as two monolithic slabs; from downstairs into the alfresco/loggia and upstairs flowing out to the balcony with a full 18 stair mass fill in situ polished concrete staircase connecting the two external concrete locations.

The large custom stacker doors adjoining the internal to external balcony surfaces had to be completely flush mounted via perfectly marked out concrete cutting and removing after the concrete was laid. However, falls to the external surfaces had to be designed and set out during the initial pour specifically to flow from door points that were strategically marked out.

The internal staircase void was designed to have the concrete wrap from floor surface to a 100 mm underside roof rebated detail to follow the seamless aesthetics throughout.

All external slab-ends were to be seamlessly polished and a 4 mm rebated cut was made to isolate all joints from holding brickwork and also create seamless finishing details throughout.

Grouting the floor was done by sampling blended white/creme cements with Kemcrete to get the matched color prior to beginning the grout process. Being a custom mix, there was no standard grout color matching process available.

Protection of the floor during construction was extremely vital being a white on white floor. The owner/builder was constantly removing and replacing floor protection to maintain a clean and immaculate surface.
